Practice Gallery is seeking new members!
APPLICATIONS DUE: SEPTEMBER 28
Our gallery seeks to support artistic practices that focus on performance, participation, and experimentation. Practice’s governing body is composed of a group of artists and art workers who produce or do not produce art works in a variety of mediums both physical and metaphysical. Current members include: Our current members include Jessica Beckwith (on hiatus), Boi Boy, Dave Hannon, Rich Hogan, Jerry Kaba, Brendan McCauley, Margaret Pezalla-Granlund, and Alfred Rosenbluth.
What it means to be a member:
Practice is a curatorial project. We do not show our own work, with the exception of our annual fundraising show.
All shows are curated democratically. This means we periodically meet as a group to discuss ideas and review applications for exhibitions. All members are encouraged to present ideas and artists that they feel strongly about.
If the member's artist/idea is decided on, that member is the lead artist on the project. However the rest of the members will provide support to the lead member.
Every member has a job (such as website editor, social media manager, facilities, treasurer, beer proprietor). The members job is their responsibility each month in addition to any work as lead on a given project. If a member needs any additional help with their job or project another member is always happy to help!
We hold monthly meetings to discuss what needs to be done in the upcoming month. This is usually done over dinner or zoom and takes about an hour.
About every seven months we have a longer meeting (Epic Meeting) to work on the exhibition schedule. This is usually done at a member's house accompanied by a potluck.
Members are expected to help out on First Fridays.
Members are expected to gallery sit occasional Saturdays & Sundays from 2-6pm. This usually ends up being once every other month.
Member dues: We divide the rent and utilities by the number of members we have. This is usually around $100 a month.
If a member can secure any funding this number can be reduced!
Members are encouraged to think outside the box. We are all excited for whatever interesting projects members come up with!
