Once dubbed Vietnam’s “Lady Gaga,” Mai Khôi emerged from her life as a pop star to become an internationally lauded human rights activist. Her journey includes dialogue with President Obama, police detention in Hanoi, and an invitation to the world stage in Oslo where she received the Vaclav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent. Now living in exile in the US, Khoi has created “Bad Activist”: a multimedia autobiography combining original music, projections, and archival footage in a cabaret-style performance that captures her powerful artistry and indomitable spirit.
