Picture Day Event

Practice invites every artist and artworker in Philadelphia to capture their image, creating a hallmark of what it is to be an artist at this place and time. Please join us on the Art Museum steps on Sunday, October 6th at 2pm to be a part of a group picture of the Philadelphia Art Scene.
On Sunday, October 6th (rain date of Sunday, October 13th), Practice will facilitate a group picture of every artist and artworker in Philadelphia. This picture will be taken on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which serves both as a place iconic to Philadelphia and as an important location for art and culture within the city. The resulting photograph, along with documentation taken by people at the event, will be shown at Mount Airy Contemporary in November of this year as a part of Citywide, a collective exhibition of artist-run spaces. If you are an artist or artworker, please save the date. You are a part of something important. Capture it.
Citywide, a Knight Arts Challenge Grant recipient, started as the brainchild of thirteen venues (Vox Populi, Space 1026, Little Berlin, Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Grizzly Grizzly, Marginal Utility,NAPOLEON, Fjord, Mt. Airy Contemporary Artists Space, Rebekah Templeton, Highwire, Basekamp, McCartney/Belknap Projects and Practice) and has grown to encompass many more. Participating artist-run galleries will host and exchange with other spaces resulting in a collaborative exchange both geographical and ideological. The exhibit will simultaneously showcase work from over 22 Philadelphia based galleries, along with 4 project-based curatorial groups, and over 150 local artists. Independent curators are also on-board with a planned month long series of performance events. Citywide is a collaborative action that will create new opportunities for dialog both within among artist-run spaces and with the broader public. The project will continue to promote the city of Philadelphia as a successful model for artistic empowerment.
